Learn About Medieval Surgery

You can find out all, and probably a lot more than you wanted to know about medieval health care, at this year's festival. A Barber Surgeon will be setting up his tent and giving talks and demonstrations about the way Medieval medics found out what was wrong with their patients, and what they did to put it right. Lots of grisly details and plenty of audience participation make it great fun, but certainly not for the squeamish or easily offended. The medieval surgery will be found, unsurprisingly, near the beer tent.

Disabled access

The festival takes place on a number of fields. Whilst we welcome disabled visitors and offer special parking for those with disabled badges, you should be aware that seeing the whole event does involve some walking over rough ground, and it is not really suitable for wheelchairs.

Battlefield walks

Regular guided tours of the battlefield, are conducted during the festival, with a full description of the events leading up to the Battle of Tewkesbury, the conduct of the battle, and the aftermath. These walks are taken at a leisurely pace, and last about two hours.

The walks are organised by the Tewkesbury battlefield Society, which exists to promote knowledge of the battlefield.
