Tewkesbury Medieval Festival is Europe's largest free annual medieval battle re-enactment and fair

On 14th & 15th July 2012, thousands of re-enactors will travel from all round the world to help re-create the Battle of Tewkesbury of 1471.

We are pleased to announce that this year Public Camping will be available over the festival weekend.

As we all know local accomodation is impossible at that time so we have arranged a camp site within walking distance of the main fair site. It will be open from 5pm Friday until 8pm Sunday.

Spaces are limited and entry will only be by ticket issued by them in advance. The cost is £10 per person per night, under 10s free, plus an extra £10 for motorhomes and caravans.

Blackmore's Night Become Festival Music Patrons

The festival is honoured to welcome Blackmore’s Night, featuring Ritchie Blackmore, Candice Night & their Band of Minstrels, as Music Patrons to the festival. The "fantasy" inspired folk-rock band, featuring legendary Deep Purple/Rainbow guitarist Ritchie and singer/songwriter Candice, are a multi-award winning band, that have achieved gold record status across the globe. In more recent years, he has turned to Renaissance and early music, forming, with Candice, Blackmore’s Night. They were married at a medieval inspired wedding in 2008. It was this interest that led Bill Hunt, one of the festival’s organisers, to try and contact the band, in order to invite them to become the festival’s music patrons.

Helping has won local army cadets an award

The Tewkesbury Platoon of the Gloucestershire Army Cadets has won a community service award from the Honorable Company of Gloucestershire. The award will be presented to them at their Red Lane headquarters on July 28. The cadets have helped run the public car parking at the event off Lincoln Green Lane for the past three years. They will be helping again at this year's Festival, on July 9-10. Commanding officer Tim Smiles said that the cadets thoroughly enjoy their days at the festival and that he is delighted with the award. Penny Tubbs, who organises the parking for the festival said, They have always been very smart and efficient, and an asset to the smooth running of our event. They are always well turned out, polite and smiling. The Honorable Company of Gloucester is an organisation set up uphold the traditions of Gloucestershire.
